With the travel season on hold and no opportunity for prospects entering their final year of high school to play in front of college coaches to earn scholarships, LakePoint Hoops wants to put the spotlight on the Class of 2021. Each day over the next few weeks we will be profiling a top prospect in Georgia in hopes of helping prospects generate buzz with college coaches.
Up next in the LakePoint Hoops Class of 2021 Spotlight Series…
Andrew McConnell
Position: Point Guard
Height: 6’1"
High School: Lanier
Travel Team: YRN/Team Huncho
Scholarship Offers: Charleston Southern, Stetson.
Scouting Report: McConnell had a huge junior year for Lanier in helping the Longhorns to a 26-6 overall record and an appearance in the 6-A state championship game before coming up just short against Chattahoochee. McConnell’s strengths were on full display in the state semifinal win when he hit multiple timely three-pointers from deep to help Lanier rally against South Cobb. He’s one of the best shooters in Georgia’s 2021 class (knocked down 100 three-pointers on the year), but he’s also very quick and crafty getting to the bucket. He should have plenty of Division 1 schools tracking him whenever travel ball resumes in 2020.
